Dear all,

in the Teaching materials you will find the results of Friday's exam.

To those of you who achieved sufficient points in the exam (more than 25) and completed your seminar assignments we have offered a final grade.

As presented in our first meeting, final grades are calculated as follows:

5 (excellent) = 85-100

4 (very good) = 75-84

3 (good) = 65-74

2 (sufficient, minimum pass grade) = 55-64

If you agree with the offered grade, please register online (via ISVU) in time for the official first exam term which is scheduled on June 19 (you have to register two days earlier). This term is also for those who did not take the pre-exam.

In case you have some questions or would like to have an insight in to your exam evaluation, get in touch.

Thank you again for your great work during the semester!!

We would like to have your feedback as well, so we hope you can take a couple of minutes to answer these questions:

Thanks in advance!

All the best,

Iva, Marijana & Milica

Dear All,

On Friday, April 24, we will discuss micro-targeting in political advertising.

In case you haven't seen it already and if you can access it, I suggest you to watch a 2019 Netflix documentary The Great Hack.

Last Friday I promised to share with you a trend-setting example of a multimedia & visual feature writing - "Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek," a New York Times multimedia feature by reporter John Branch, which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize. It is a long (narrative) story interwoven with interactive graphics, animated simulations and aerial video:

Dear all,

We truly hope you are all doing well and that you are somewhere on safe. I am sure we are all still stressed with what happened on Sunday, especially those who stayed in Zagreb. We hope that our next meeting will be at least some distraction from everything what is going on at the moment around us. Please read the information about this week course agenda.

This Friday we will meet at 10:15h when I will be giving a short lecture on suggested readings. I will try to record the lecture and make it available to others who will not be able to join us at 10:15h. Last week Iva gave you short overview on the “Big Data, Online Platforms, Data-driven Communication” and this Friday we will talk about “Open data and strategic communications (social media analytics, sources, tools, techniques and theories)”. Suggested readings are (available in teaching materials):

● Plowman, K. D. & Wilson, C. (2018). Strategy and Tactics in Strategic Communication: Examining their Intersection with Social Media Use. International Journal of Strategic Communication, 12(2): 125-144. DOI: 10.1080/1553118X.2018.1428979

● Batrinca, B & Treleaven, P. C. (2014). Social media analytics: a survey of techniques, tools and platforms. AI & Soc, 30: 89–116. DOI 10.1007/s00146-014-0549-4

The seminar will start at 12:00 as it is scheduled. We have one presentation titled “Open data - the case of” that will be given by our colleague Silvija Valjin, while group 6 will be the “Challengers”.

Dear all,

Hopefully, you are all doing well!

Our next meeting, this time virtual, will take place on Friday, March 20, at 12:00. Please, get yourself ready by taking these 2 steps:

1) consult the suggested readings (you'll find them in teaching materials here on the intranet)

2) download WebEx ( and join the meeting on Friday at 12 by using this link:

The agenda for Friday meeting will be:

1) to discuss the readings

2) to agree on dates and contents/concepts of your presentations

3) to decide on challengers

In teaching materials (here on the intranet), you will find a table with your topics and proposed dates for group presentations. As said during out introduction class, the deadline to submit your individual essays is always 2 days before the presentation date.

The essay (1000-1500 words) should be structured in three main parts:

1) introduction (guides your reader into the paper by introducing the topic, states the main idea or argument of the essay, sets limits on the topic, and can indicate the organization of the essay)

2) body (here you develop the main points and support them with available literature/research)

3) conclusion (brings together all the main points of the essay, leaves readers with a final thought and sense of closure)

Use engaging language. Write in active voice, not in passive.

Please, provide your references in APA 6 style at the end of the text. For orientation

Do not place references in footnotes.

Should you have any questions or difficulties in attending the Friday webinar, please let us know.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Best wishes,

Iva, Milica & Marijana

Dear all,

This is to inform you that at the Faculty of Political Science, from Friday 13 March 2020 until further notice, due to the epidemiological situation in the world and based on the recommendation of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Croatia, all meetings, including classes (lectures in compulsory subjects) and academic and public events, with one hundred or more participants are being cancelled. Classes with less than one hundred participants will be held, but attendance is optional.

Our class at Data Driven Strategic Communication is less than 100 participants but in order to keep everyone safe and comfortable, and in accordance with the current decisions of the Faculty Council, we will organise our classes (both lectures and seminars) online, starting from Friday 20 March. Tomorrow class will not be held but we ask you to use the time to consult the suggested readings (in the Class agenda) and to watch the following Ted Talk by Carole Cadwalladr, journalist who exposed the Cambridge Analytica scandal:

We kindly invite you to follow the Faculty's web pages, intranet and your email for further updates. We will soon provide you with more details into how the online classes will be organised.

Stay safe and sane 😊.

Marijana, Milica & Iva
